There are two main reasons why I’ve gotten deeply interested and invested in makeup: becoming an esthetician and youtube. Although I did makeup maybe a total of 5 or 6 times while in school, I was slowly becoming more and more interested in it after doing makeup in two fashion shows and turned to youtube for ideas on products and looks to try.
The first youtube “guru” that I watched and quickly fell in love with was Emily Noel.
Her youtube channel Beauty Broadcast (emilynoel83) has 800 videos (just did her 800th!!) and close to 400,000 subscribers. She began her youtube career in 2007 while working at a TV station and has recently left her job as the morning anchor to dedicate her time to Beauty Broadcast. Along with her main youtube channel, she also has Beauty Vlogcast and her blog, beautybroadcast.net, and now the Beauty Broadcast Community!
To say that Emily is amazing would be an understatement. She’s beautiful, funny, intelligent, talented, well spoken, and an inspiration. Although I’ve never had a conversation with her, I did receive a reply to my comment once.. And needless to say, I took a screenshot of her reply and posted on facebook and twitter how excited I was that she replied. Crazy fan much?! haha.. Well, she’s just that great!
Her videos are extremely informative and fun to watch… Reviews, dupes, tutorials, favorites, shopping list ideas, hauls, empties, and try this not that (to name a few!) – every video is wonderful. She covers drugstore and high end makeup, as well as any other beauty items she’s enjoying at the moment. Her recommendations are always on point (I’ve found some holy grail products thanks to Emily), her tutorials are done well and you don’t watch thinking, “Okay, how the hell am I going to recreate this?”.. At the end of every year she has the Emily Awards, with videos all about her favorites of the year for face, eyes and lips, a finale, and fails. These are some of my favorites to watch but I could never choose even a few videos as favorites, I love all of them! And that isn’t easy to say when it comes to many youtube gurus.. Typically I have to scroll through all their videos just to find a few I enjoy. I can safely say Emily hasn’t posted I video that I didn’t enjoy.
Her vlog channel is super cute and gives you insight on her daily life. Cupcake (her cat) is always featured, her mom has her own favorites videos, and her wonderful husband Tyler is in many of them as well. He’s such a great sport!
Beautybroadcast.net features her videos as well as other product reviews, swatches, face of the day’s and more! It’s easy to use and always well written. She also posts “Daily Nuggets” at the bottom of each post and are little insights to what is currently going on in her day to day life.
She recently created Beauty Broadcast Community!!! Super excited about this! It has forums for fellow makeup/beauty junkies, you can post pictures and videos. It’s brand new and already full of amazing people to talk to! Check it out and join!

I’ve been watching Emily for two years now and although this may sound strange to some, I think of her as a friend. I look forward to her videos and watch them the second I see she posted a new one.. I couldn’t say one bad word about her and whenever I get the chance, I sing her praises to anyone who loves beauty and makeup (and even to those who don’t!).. She’s been an inspiration to me and is a huge reason why I wanted to start blogging.. Although I have a long way to go and am still figuring out what my path may become in blogging and the beauty industry in general, I continue to look to her as a friend and mentor. I hope some day in the future I’ll be able to meet her (probably cry and make a fool out of myself LOL) and just let her know how incredibly appreciated she is. I can’t recommend her enough and I hope this post encourages anyone who hasn’t yet heard of her to go check her out. I can guarantee you’ll learn about some amazing products, techniques, and all in all – you’ll feel like you gained a friend. She’s truly amazing!

Hi Marie- I love Emily too!! I discovered her several months ago and pretty much have to say ditto to everything that you said! Now I found your blog so I let me go check out your holy grail foundation. Good Luck to you!!
Thank you so much for reading! ❤
I have to agree with you 100%….L O V E Emily!
She’s great! 🙂
I love Emily, too! Like you, I’m also an esthetician, and I originally found her videos a few years ago when I was looking for tips on doing bridal makeup for some of my salon clients. She’s so great! Thanks for this fun post.
Thanks for the comment Caroline! It’s great meeting fellow Estheticians 🙂
She has great bridal tips and advice. Bridal makeup can be so stressful and nerve-wracking.
Love Emily, have enjoyed her videos for 3 years now. Agree with everything you said and thinking about it there isn’t a video of hers I haven’t enjoyed or found informative. Of everyone that I’m subscribed to, I immediately watch her videos first!
Thanks for the comment Leslie!
Emily is definitely first priority when new videos are up 🙂
