There are a few reasons why there are moisturizers for your body, and ones for your face… Each are formulated specifically for different areas. Facial moisturizers, body, feet, and hands… All have different ingredients and properties.
The skin on your face is very different from the skin on your body.
A huge reason why you should use a facial moisturizer instead of one for your body – the pore size in your face is so much smaller than throughout your body. Body moisturizers have large molecules because your pores are larger.. Your face (although we may complain about having “large” pores…) actually has very small pores. Facial moisturizers are made with smaller molecules that will absorb fully. If you put a body lotion on your face, it won’t fully absorb because the molecules are too large. It can clog pores, and sit on your skin, more than likely causing a greasy feeling.
Along with pore size, your face also releases more oil to hold in moisture than other areas of your body. Your body needs a thicker moisturizer because it doesn’t have those oils to keep it as hydrated as your face. Even if your skin is dry – a body moisturizer still has properties that aren’t made for your face… If you have a dry skin type, dry patches and need a thicker moisturizer, be sure to find one meant for your face.
Your face needs lotions with different ingredients. From ingredients to fight breakouts, to aging, to sun damage, etc… The skin on your face takes a lot of damage and those ingredients are important!
Also, most body moisturizers contain fragrances that can irritate the skin on your face because it’s much more sensitive than your body.
Knowing your skin type is also very important because different facial moisturizers are made for each skin type! š

Can you recommend a good facial scrub? I have seriously dry/rough skin…like sandpaper LOL that sounds gross! No matter how much moisturizer I use it doesn’t make a difference. I barely wear foundation anymore because it looks awful. I could use primer but I would rather my skin be better than covering it with primer.
What’s your skin type?
My skin is fair so it can be sensitive. If I do react to a product I will get red and even dryer. I almost never break out.
Okay, what’s your routine currently? If you’re willing to spend the money, Clarisonics are really great and can even take the place of exfoliation if you use it 1-2 times a week. I have the Clarisonic Mia 2 and it’s worth the investment.
Most exfoliators aren’t going to give you much moisture.. Usually you’ll want to combat dryness with everything else, and then the exfoliator will help with roughness.
Try Yes to Blueberries Softening Facial Exfoliator. You can get it at drugstores, Target and Walmart for around $10. It’s typically used for aging skin but because you are so dry, anti-aging products will probably be really great for you.
Michael Todd True Organics also has some really great products for dry skin and aren’t very expensive.

A hydrating toner would be great for you as well. I’d definitely suggest combating the dryness first and once you find a routine that keeps your skin hydrated enough, then exfoliation won’t be as much of a problem for you.
I could go on and on and list tons of things so if you want to talk more in detail, feel free to email me š

I use Aveeno Positively Radiant daily cleansing pads and the moisturizer. Once a week i use Neutrogena pote refining cleanser. To remove makeup I use Boots soft and soothed gentle cleanser. I’m not using a toner. It’s not much of a routine.
Every time I have the money for a Clarisonic I talk myself put of it!
that’s supposed to be pore not pote LOL
Cleansing pads can be a little drying.. If you want to try something new, I can give you a little regiment to try out and see how it works for you?
Cerave Hydrating Cleanser (at drugstores, around $13 for a big bottle) – use this in the morning and night. I’d only use the cleansing pads to remove makeup – and still cleanse with the cerave after whenever you do use them. This cleanser is really hydrating and won’t strip your skin of any oils. Cerave is very gentle so it rarely causes any reactions, even for the most sensitive of skin. Definitely get the hydrating one.
Aveeno has nice products but I’ve noticed the moisturizer even dries out my skin, and I have combo skin..
Make sure you use an oil based moisturizer.
A toner isn’t absolutely necessary but it can be helpful.
For now, try the Cerave and an oil based moisturizer. Cerave has some nice moisturizers as well if you like sticking with similar products.
A simple routine is much better than using a ton of different products because you don’t want to overload your skin so it’s good that you keep it simple.
Try out that cleanser and make sure you use an oil-based moisturizer (there are tons at the drugstore) and let me know how it works for you! We can move forward from there š
Clarisonics are SO worth the money. They are really great and you’ll feel a difference after even the first use.
Thank you! I will let you know how it goes!
No problem, can’t wait to hear!
