Updates & Seche Vite Top Coat Review:

Hello lovelies!

Sorry for my lack of posts lately, I’ve been super busy!

Yesterday I participated in the Heart Walk – it’s for the American Heart Association.. I know I don’t often tell you guys about what’s going on in my personal life and I’m going to try to be better about filling you in for those of you who are interested in who I am outside of the skin care and makeup world.

Of course if you are only here for the reviews and such, feel free to skip right past this.

But anywho,  last year my best friend Gary passed away suddenly at the age of 24, I won’t go into too much detail about that, maybe for a future post… But both last year and this one I’ve participated in this walk in memory of him and I will continue trying to do so every year… The turnout was great, hundreds of people showed up and they raised over $100,000!  I’m not sure how many miles the walk is but it goes down by the harbor and the view is beautiful so I took a couple pictures for you guys! The weather was absolutely perfect!

I swear I was a mermaid in a past life LOL the water feels like home to me. The walk is very bittersweet, I’m with friends and family but it’s still so hard to process the thought that he is gone, and the water is very soothing to me… But yeah, I hope you guys liked the pictures… Just taken with my iphone but like I said, I want to start filling my readers in with different things going on in my life so here is my start of that! And maybe some of you fellow mermaids will appreciate these pictures 🙂

Other than the walk, I’ve been busy with work and trying to enjoy time with friends as much as I can before the super cold weather hits. It already feels like fall in Upstate NY and as much as I love this cooler weather, around here there is no telling when snow will hit… We’ve had a severe snowstorm in October before so you just never know!

As for upcoming posts, I’m currently trying out a toner I made and will probably be doing a DIY for that as well as a review on a couple newer drugstore products! 🙂

Would you prefer I do Update posts on their own or include reviews with them like this one? Let me know in the comment section below!

And now, time for the review!

I’ve heard tons of mixed reviews about the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat so a few months back I purchased it from Sally’s Beauty Supply and have been trying it out ever since… The price seems to vary from place to place, at Sally’s it costs $7.99 but I’ve seen it sold on Amazon for $4 or even less.

So, there is a bit of a controversy when it comes to this top coat… Although it’s gotten great reviews, there is a warning that this can cause birth defects and contains some hazardous ingredients… BUT, in this small amount I don’t think it can do much damage. As long as you aren’t chewing on your nails or anything.. And I would definitely avoid using this while pregnant, just in case!!

For the fast dry claim, I’d say it does dry faster than other top coats I’ve used. Of course it also varies depending on the layers of nail polish underneath. If you have thick layers of polish that aren’t fully dry, a top coat isn’t going to dry quickly. But it definitely dries pretty quickly and I like that this is a thicker top coat so it gives a nice layer of shine to the nails.

I don’t really have a major complaint with this, it’s good, but I wonder if I can find better…

The staying power is what I’m iffy about… I feel like the first few times I used it, my polish lasted for around a week and I was really impressed. But as I’ve continued using it, the quality has seemed to decrease.. My nails will last without chipping for a couple days, tops. Three, maybe four if I’m lucky…

This was after 4 days. I’m right handed so of course those nails chipped a lot more than on my left.

It thickens up after a few uses and I think that is what messes with the staying power and also causes a few bubbles. I would recommend to try putting it in the fridge for a little bit before applying so it isn’t as thick. It seems when polishes are kept cool, they work much better.

Overall, this is a good top coat. I want to try out others, but I feel like this is one you can always keep in your collection when all else fails.

  1. That’s so neat that you do the Heart Walk in your friend’s memory. I lost a dear friend when he was 23 (two days before my own 23rd birthday), so this really struck a cord with me. And I loved your beautiful photos!
