Finding a good eyeliner has always been difficult for me. I’m pretty picky when it comes to them and most of the ones I own, I don’t use very often either because I flat out hate it, or it just isn’t as great as I had hoped…. But when it comes to an eyeliner that is good for the waterline – and lives up to my standards – that’s on a whole other level of difficulty.. My eyes aren’t very watery most of the time but I’ve always had trouble with smudging under my eyes, and eyeliner on the waterline disappearing after only an hour or so. I haven’t found very many that I love, but there are a few that I will always return back to and I must have in my collection at all times.. (You know you’re a makeup hoarder when it starts being called a collection LOL)
I know I’m not the only one on the search for the perfect eyeliner that can be dubbed your all-mighty holy grail.. So I wanted to share a few of my favorites, in the hopes that I can give you a nudge in the right direction if you struggle like I have with finding even one good option.
These are my recommendations if you are looking for an eyeliner for on the waterline, but they are also great on the lid.

Milani’s Liquif’Eye (in 01 Black, twist up pencil)Β $7.99 at drugstores $5.97 at Walmart –
Extremely creamy, glides on SO smoothly and it is very pigmented (the blackest eyeliner I own).. The lasting power is great, however it is so creamy – that it can get messy. With this one, I will almost always set it with a black eyeshadow to ensure it doesn’t smudge after a few hours. This is a kohl eyeliner, so it gives you more time to work with, if you want to smoke it out.

Maybelline Eye Studio Master Drama (Midnight Master & Bold Brown, twist up pencils)Β $7.49 at drugstores, $6.49 at Target & Walmart –
These are my all time favorite.. Dare I say my holy grail eyeliner?! π I love these for on the lid, if I’m not using gel liner – this is what I use. They are soft, creamy, easy to apply, don’t tug on the lid at all, and last great on the waterline, and I don’t have to set them with an eyeshadow because I’ve never had a problem with smudging.
(The top two)
When you first apply, the black (Midnight Master) has a glossy appearance, but it sets totally matte..
The brown, I JUST noticed while swatching that it actually has some kind of sparkle in it… But I don’t think it’s noticeable once it is on the lid or waterline… As I look at it swatched on my hand, the sparkle is a brownish gold and looks surprisingly nice.. But again, I never noticed a sparkle to it on my eyes…
So, you may want to avoid the brown shade if a little sparkle concerns you but Midnight Master is a must have in my opinion!

Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner (005 Nude, regular pencil – needs sharpening)Β $4.49 at drugstores & Ulta –
Obviously, the nude one Β π
This is my newest eyeliner purchase and I love it so far. When I don’t want a dramatic look on my waterline using black, I prefer a nude liner over the traditional white. It adds a pop of natural looking color without being too stark. This is very creamy, nice lasting power, easy to apply and it is great for daily wear on the waterline.
In this photo, you can kind of see the sparkle in the brown shade.

Smudge Test: rubbing a paper towel over these several times, the liquif’eye lasted the best – it barely faded, and Rimmel’s faded the most.
